Bio
Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird are an alternative rock band from Naarm/Melbourne, Australia.
Evolving out of the music communities and famous rock pubs around Fitzroy, their music is uplifting, infectious, and highly unique.
With a steadily growing discography and a passionate fan base, Cousin Tony’s has become one of Australia’s most innovative, entertaining, and authentic indie bands. Having toured the UK and Europe in 2019 and again in 2023 — with headline shows in London, Dublin, Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin, including appearances at Live at Leeds and The Great Escape — the ‘Bird continues to soar internationally.
Formed in 2015 by singer-songwriter Lachlan Rose, Cousin Tony’s began as an organic duo playing in a weekly community performance space, called “Fortnightly Fort Night”. Rose’s early songwriting efforts evolved into the debut Queen of Hearts EP, featuring the stand out iconic tracks, ‘Head Home’ and ‘Soothsayer’, and was recorded under the evocative moniker Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird — a name inspired by a line in the film American Beauty. The EP caught the attention of Sydney artist development label Double Drummer, who signed the artist in 2016. The follow up EP was equally auspicious, featuring fan favourites, ‘Cool Parties’ and ‘Melbourne Bitter’.
Cousin Tony’s has since recorded four studio albums, cementing Rose’s reputation as a leading Australian songwriter, while showcasing the band’s genre-blending appeal, poetic lyricism, and magnetic live performances. The band’s strong live following has also led to the release of several live EPs that capture their on-stage dynamism and intimate audience connection.
