Cousin Tony's announce highly anticipated third album, Smiles of Earth

Following a sold out run of headline shows in Canberra, Sydney and Wollongong, Double Drummer is excited to announce that popular Melbourne band, Cousin Tony's Brand New Firebird, have finally finished their highly anticipated third record, Smiles of Earth – and it's set for release on 26th August. Produced by Stephen Charles (Gretta Ray, Ali Barter, Bliss n Eso) and mixed by Matthew Neighbour (The Avalanches, Matt Corby), this is their most organic and stylistically cohesive collection to date.

In a world of singular musical moments, tracks targeted specifically for streaming services, and cynical TikTok event releases, Cousin Tony's – led by extraordinary songwriter, Lachlan Rose – reminds us why we love albums. With Smiles of Earth, Cousin Tony's have created an antidote for our collective malaise and a phenomenal body of work that will take you on a journey. We've had a hint of what's to come with the amazing singles 'When This Is Over' (praised by Double J), and the more recent 'Bluestone' (added to ABC Radio nationally and Double J) already taking their place among the band's most beloved tracks.

Few bands have built their reputations during the restrictions and lockdowns of the past few years, but the 'Bird have continued to blossom creatively, while increasing their fanatical legion of fans – and they are ready to happily welcome more into their nest. We can't wait to share the album with you, so mark this one in your calendar and we'll see you at a record store on release day.

Speaking of records, Smiles of Earth will be pressed on limited edition translucent orange vinyl, and pre-orders are available now via the image below.
