Representing a triumphant step forward from last year's debut Lay Low, this Friday emerging young Sydney troubadour Dominic Breen will release his sophomore EP rattlin.

A master at evoking a sense of time and place, Breen’s direct and deeply personal writing style shows that he is unafraid to lay himself bare in his songs. Chock full of lush guitar pop, clever turns of phrase, incessant hooks and Breen's idiosyncratic vocal, the new EP’s tracklist features previously released tracks 'Love is Everywhere We Go', 'Ashfield' and 'Dream Thing' – all of which were deftly produced and recorded by Middle Kids’ Tim Fitz who became a fan of Breen after he supported them last year.

There's no doubt Breen has turned plenty of heads in the short time he's been releasing music. He’s already had two songs added to FBi, three to 2SER, a video clip starring Richard Roxburgh, props from Ben Folds, countless rave reviews on Triple J Unearthed and several adds to influential DSP playlists like ‘New Music Friday’ and ‘Broad Chords’ (Spotify); as well as ‘New Music Daily’, ‘ALT CTRL’, 'Today's Indie Rock' and multiple other Apple Music playlists.

From the Springsteen-esque inner west heartbreak of ‘Ashfield’ to the “shoegaze meets The Cure” vibes of ‘Lilium’ to the four-on-the-floor stomp of ‘The Nerve of Some’; it’s pretty clear that any one of the six songs on this thing could be a single. Equally likely to appeal to fans of great storytellers like Courtney Barnett and Bob Dylan as it is to those that enjoy the classy jangle-pop of The Go-Betweens and The Smiths, rattlin is a thrilling body of work from one of Sydney’s most promising new talents.
