"[4.5 stars] This is my fave track of yours to date - the horns, that jazzy percussion and vocally, girl you SLAY”Bridget Hustwaite, Triple J

"She's outdone herself on all fronts, all the while sharing a vital message. An immensely powerful song that has struck at the perfect time."Purple Sneakers

‘Baby Give It Up’ is the latest from 23 year old Melbourne-based vocal powerhouse Francesca Gonzales.

A seamless blend of R&B, neo-soul, pop, indie and electronic music, Francesca wrote the song following an uncomfortable encounter with a male punter at a festival. The punter wouldn’t stop harassing her with unwanted sexual innuendo and physical hassle while she was just trying to dance and enjoy herself. As Francesca explains, “I started talking to my friends about it and soon realised that everyone had gone through similar situations. I wanted to write this song as a message to people who don’t take no for an answer. If someone asks you to stop, then stop.”

With its incredible shifting bass line, incessant groove and forward-thinking production by Matt Neighbour (Courtney Barnett, The Avalanches, Matt Corby), the track is the second taste of an upcoming EP which is due in April.

It’s even more immediate and accessible than Francesca’s acclaimed previous single ‘Better Person', which The Music called "an instant classic", Pilerats referred to as “hauntingly beautiful” and Richard Kingsmill awarded a rare 4.5 stars on Unearthed.

Francesca launched ‘Baby Give It Up’ on March 15 at the Evelyn Hotel in Melbourne, and an east coast tour and EP will follow in April.
