Francesca Gonzales Releases new single ’Dumb Boy'
“Nothing can set her back.” – Purple Sneakers
“You’re a super talent Francesca.” – Declan Byrne, triple j
Armed with her signature keytar, Melbourne artist Francesca Gonzales has been captivating audiences with her powerful vocals, deep disco grooves and soul-pop prowess. Teaming up with man-of-the-moment producer/co-writer Dave Hammer (Thundamentals, Ro, Jeffe, Lime Cordiale) for the first time, her new single 'Dumb Boy’ is out today. It’s the first taste of her debut album, due later this year.
A rumination on dating in the 21st century and meeting rejection with confidence, ‘Dumb Boy’ is a bold expansion of the aesthetic that Francesca explored on her two EPs. It boldly pushes her genre-blending sound forward with tight grooves, infectious melodies and progressive production. Featuring a pizzicato string sample, rumbling bass and massive hooks, the song is Gonzales’ attempt to bring the sound of '90s R&B into a modern context.
Francesca’s previous releases have been premiered and featured on some of Australia's biggest music sites, including Pilerats ("hauntingly beautiful"), The AU Review ("an enticing creative melting pot”), Auspop, Conversations About Her and The Music ("an instant classic”). Earlier singles 'Better Person' and 'Baby Give It Up' received airplay on both triple j and Double J, as well as 4.5 star reviews from multiple triple j personalities.
