Cousin Tony's announce upcoming album Rosewater Crocodile and national tour with new single 'Mercury Rising'
Cousin Tony’s Rosewater Crocodile Tour – First dates to be announced:
Following a run of four sold-out hometown shows in Melbourne, indie favourites Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird are back with a massive announcement: new music, a new album on the horizon, and a national tour.
The band’s powerful new single, 'Mercury Rising', is out today — marking the official lead track from their long-awaited upcoming album, Rosewater Crocodile, released globally Friday June 27 on Double Drummer.
'Mercury Rising' is a stunning and ebullient track, with frontman Lachlan Rose saying:
“You got the mercury rising. I dip a toe and I dive in!”
"Mercury Rising percolated in the creative volcano for many years. Riffs at sound check, lyrics on tour etc. Then the band had a day off between shows in Europe, went to a nudist day spa and the song was crystallised. It’s a celebration of fun, sexy love - platonic or otherwise. We wanted the song itself to sound like the world in which it was created; a safe, playful celebration of lascivious love between friends."
Premiering the track, Backseat Mafia describes the song as :
"The most fluid, ambulant slice of sinuous funk you could ever have the pleasure of hearing. A syncopated bass that throbs with intensity under the surface creates a hypnotic thread that flows throughout the track, with some wild synths creating a psychedelic multi-coloured hue and splashing guitars adding a crystalline thrill. The result is something quite infectious and utterly mesmerising."
To celebrate the new single and upcoming album, the band is proud to announce the Rosewater Crocodile National Tour.
This news come hot on the heels of Cousin Tony’s triumphant April/May run of sold-out "album shows" in Melbourne, where the band revisited each of their three studio albums in intimate pub settings — a rare and heartfelt tribute to their hometown fanbase. From the Electric Brown celebration at the Evelyn to a euphoric night dedicated to Smiles of Earth at the Northcote Social Club (tonight), the venue shifting mini-residency served as both a reflection and a reawakening — signalling the start of an exciting new chapter for Cousin Tony's.
With millions of streams and a devoted following at home and abroad, Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird stands poised to break further into the mainstream — and the soaring, cinematic new single 'Mercury Rising' might just be the track to take them there.
